Yeah, I can. Because to me, thats the most hypocritical a person can do. There are all sorts of ways to promote sexual safety, it does not have to be abstinence which she clearly does not support. Condoms, birth control, STD checks, all promote the same goal and does not make her look like a person selling her beliefs and her celebrity for profit.

And what connotations does it have? When r13 uses it, he means to say this set of people are hate filled bigots, war mongers, white supremist. Pretty demeaning to someone who might describe themselves as a redneck, but just meaning country, bass fishin, deer huntin good ol boys.
Kind of like the difference between me saying the N-word, or black people calling themselves that.
You've never heard a gay person refer to themselves as f@g? you must be joking.

I'm definately not defending her calling someone [email protected] theres really no difference in what r13 does with "redneck". He uses it as a demeaning word, simple as that...but it is let go over and over.
The white person N-word and what black guys sometimes call themselves are two different words. Im not black, but ive used the n-word in the same connotations, ending in an A, around my black friends numerous times without any issue at all.

No, I have never in my life heard a gay person call themselves a f@g. Have you?

And you are now getting into a very open territory, inferring what someone means. Thats saying you can read minds, know exactly what a person means when they say something.
But its ridiculous to say calling a white guy a redneck is the same as calling a black person N****R. The latter has all sorts of negative connotations throughout history, its a word full of hate, hate thats built up over years and years.
Redneck does not have the same social ramifications that the other word does.

I have, happily and braggingly about being one too. I did however live in Johnson city for 2 years. I know a guy from big stone gap that used to message me on the computer, i had no idea who he was until he started bragging about being the biggest fag in wise county and started telling me all the shit he was good at. Yes, he was really gay, and yes, he was a flaming gay guy.
Cant we all just get along?

Re: She shouldn't act surprised when..

The truth in all this lies, as per usual, somewhere in the middle.

Where there's a problem is going off on a kid, even if they're 16'ish years of age. I did some pretty stupid shit at that age, and looking back, I would have went off on me had I been seeing me do that. Now, is there a good reason to? Possibly...but I got to remember I made some of the same types of mistakes--maybe not this egregious/high-profile, but mistakes nonetheless. That's what R13 needs to remember.

For the rest of it--Palin put her kids in the spotlight, without teaching them how to handle it correctly. Mainly b/c she doesn't know how too handle it herself, but that's beside the point. Now...her kids should know that whatever idiocy they decide to toss out there is going to end up splashed on the front pages. That's the nature of the media especially these days. The fact that the media took it and ran with it isn't an attack on them b/c they're going to report it b/c they're high-profile people in a high-profile family. Their misstep is news. The media reporting it is not an attack at all. It's a mistake on their part.

When Prince Harry got caught wearing a Nazi uni to a Halloween party a few years ago--there weren't people out there saying the media was attacking him by reporting it. There were plenty of people out there calling him a dumbass for not recognizing that he'd get caught and called out on it because he's Prince facking Harry.

Palin's problem is that she would rather be in the spotlight for ANYTHING instead of something good. Thats really the only problem i have with her, she needs to remember who she is, and what she does instead of trying to be a reality tv queen. she is only hurting her family and herself by doing this.

Harry was 20 when it happened though wasn't he? I think that goes back to the age of 18 stuff, but I didn't have a problem with the Nazi outfit myself. Sure it isn't best for his image, but it was a costume party, so I don't give a crap about that anyway myself.

He may have been older, but still, he should have known that it would be negative publicity for the royal family. That's my point.

Palin should have taught her kids to be cognisant of their actions vis-a-vis the media backlash, and we wouldn't be discussing this. Just like Rocky said--any press to her is good press b/c she's an attention whore. It doesn't matter what kind of attention she gets, as long as her political advisors can spin it to make it look like she's the victim...or in this case, her family's the victim.

It's a win-win for them, and people who are dumb enough to believe their line of BS on the spin deserve whatever they get coming to them.

Theres a huge difference between calling someone a media whore, a person willing to sell out her principles for money, and using a slur that demeans a whole set of people.

Plus you refuse to see the big issue. We are not famous people. We are not held to a higher standard. Our families do not go on television and preach about how great they are, how their morals are strong and that they are shining beacons for American morality and righteousness, that they are better than other people because they are religious and have better morals, then have their kids getting pregnant at 16, or having their daughter using homophobic slurs.

DJ, its just like Willow Palin called a guy the N-word. Do you think that would be okay? Would you be cool with Willow Palin calling some guy a ni**** then her mother getting on TV acting as if the media is attacking her?
I never said I was "cool" with Willow Palin's comments. As a matter of fact, I'm not cool with it. It wasn't cool.

I know you're not a famous person. My point is quite often you behave no better. Example, at times resorting to name-calling when someone doesn't see things th way you do. I have done it too.
